Check your child's book level

Parents and Guardians!!!

Did you know you can check the level of your child's book that they are reading?

Some, if not most, books can be found on these websites. If your child is not sure what ZPD level they are at, send me a quick note or comment on this page and I will get the information that you need.

Your child is in second grade and should be at 2.0-2.9.
If not, with your help and your child's hard work and practice they can get there.

You will want to use the Grade Level Equivalent

Happy READING!! :)

Quick Tips from the Teacher

Make sure that your child is reading everyday for at least 30 minutes (no exceptions!) This is how they are going to practice becoming better readers.

Have them read different types of books.

  • non-fiction (informational books)
  • fiction (make believe books)
  • kids magazines
  • poetry for kids (helps with fluency)
A good way to get different types of books are to go to the Public Library; it's FREE!!!

Here is my quick tip to see if your child can read the book if they do not know their ZPD:

The FIVE FINGER Method:
  1. Open to a page of the book.
  2. Begin reading.
  3. Each time you come up to a word you don't know, hold up one finger.
  4. After you finish reading the page, check to see how many fingers you are holding up.

0-1 fingers       2-3 fingers         4-5 fingers

Welcome Back to School!!!

I am glad to be back in the classroom and doing what I enjoy the most! We are now in the fifth week of school and many skills have been taught.

Remember to ask your kids everyday what they did in school that day, it helps spark conversation between you and your child.

Please stay posted as I hope to update this site periodically with important information.
